The most common reasons for extraction by an oral surgeon are:
Wisdom Teeth Removal
If there’s not enough room for wisdom teeth to grow at the back of your mouth, they become what is known as ‘impacted’. This can cause pain, swelling and/or infection, in which case they should be removed.
Sometimes dentists extract teeth to prepare the mouth for orthodontics. The goal of orthodontics is to properly align the teeth, which may not be possible if your teeth are too big for your mouth. Likewise, if a tooth cannot break through the gum (erupt) because there is not room in the mouth for it, your dentist may recommend extraction.
If tooth decay or damage extends to the pulp - the centre of the tooth containing nerves and blood vessels -- bacteria in the mouth can enter the pulp, leading to infection. If infection is so severe that antibiotics do not cure it, extraction may be needed to prevent the spread of infection.
Our oral surgeon can also carry out a variety of minor soft tissue procedures including removal of polyps and cysts.
Oral surgery procedures can be carried out with intravenous sedation.
I visited Chelsea Green last week for my first hygienist appointment - Janie did a great job and I was extremely happy with the results. The practice is lovely and so is Alice. I will definitely be returning.
I would just like to say that I have received excellent treatment for Anna Maciag and her team and look forward to having a new tooth fitted in May.
Anna Maciag is a Brilliant Dental Surgeon. The combination of Anna and Ovaldir Junior is unbeatable! Three years ago I had a tooth implant (100% success) Last month I returned to have two difficult back teeth extracted. I was DREADING IT! No Problem. No Pain. I insisted in not having antibiotics. I didn't even take pain killers - just regular salty water mouth washing. Two weeks later completely healed. Now for another implant. What more can you ask of a professional practice. THANK YOU ANNA.
Lovely staff, beautiful practice and wonderful location in Chelsea. 100% recommend - I normally hate going to the dentist but Anna and her team really put my mind at ease! Best dentist in London in my opinion
A prime example of what a visit to the dentist should be like. The practice itself is lovely, impeccably clean and feels very welcoming. Having been referred to Anna for an extraction of a broken tooth with an abscess requiring surgery, I was definitely not expecting the experience to be as painless and pleasant as it was. Towards the end of the procedure I almost found myself dozing off in their incredibly comfortable chair. Following the procedure, aftercare was easy and straight forward; I experienced next to no pain or discomfort and it all seems to be healing well. Thank you very much Anna, Junior and Alice for your excellent care!
